Ready for Business is designed for pre-intermediate students who need to acquire a knowledge of basic business English.

Each unit focuses on performane in a different business situation. The situations that have been chosen are those that students at this level are most likely to have to handle in English: meeting a visitor at the airport, giving an outline of their company, making appointments by telephone, etc. The book centers on the visit of an American executive to a Japanese company, but the situations and language will be of relevance to businesspeople of all nationalities.

The emphasis of the book is on listening and speaking. Each unit begins with listening activities and moves on to structured language practice; this is followed by a role play, where students are encouraged to relate the language they learn to their own particular situation, and finally by a free discussion activity. Throughout the book students are invited to bring their own business experience and knowledge to the situation being r worked on.

A cassette tape is available featuring the main dIalogs and further listening activities. Whilst the majority of speakers use standard American English, the cassette also features Japanese, British, French, German, and other accents that businesspeople are likely to encounter.
