The aim of this thesis is to present an extended and systematic study of the language attitudes people in Taiwan hold today towards the most widespread language varieties, i. e. Mandarin, Minnan Hua (Southern Min), and Taiwanese-Mandarin, on the basis of the evalution of these language varieties by the members of the main ethnoliguistic and social groups in Taiwan.
